We are getting a new 1-year Microsoft Azure Research Award!

We are getting a new 1-year Microsoft Azure Research Award from Microsoft Research. This award supports $20,000 Azure credits, which we will use for large-scale system experiments in the Azure cloud.

REEF’s an Apache Top-Level Project.

REEF’s approved as an Apache Top-Level Project.Congrats to all the REEF team members! This’s the first Apache project that started from SNU with collaboration with Microsoft and others. Currently there are only three Apache Top-level projects that have major contribution from committers from Korea. Our lab has 8 REEF PMC members.

Dolphin, our machine learning platform, is open sourced!

We are happy to announce that Dolphin’s open sourced. Dolphin is a machine learning platform built atop Apache REEF. Dolphin contains a BSP-style framework (dolphin-bsp), a deep learning framework (dolphin-dnn), and a parameter server module (dolphin-ps). One can download Dolphin from https://github.com/cmssnu/dolphin.

Byung-Gon Chun will give a talk on his group’s research at Facebook.

Byung-Gon Chun will visit Facebook (Menlo Park, CA, USA) and give a talk on a unified big data stack at Facebook early October. During this visit, he will discuss potential collaboration opportunities with Facebook engineers.

Byung-Gon Chun received 2015 Naver Young Faculty Award for his research! Gunhee Kim and Byung-Gon Chun are two faculty recipients of this award from Seoul National University.
